I Am the Ember
Maturity

Poem of
The Day

Maturity

I was compelled to stop and watch
her burrowing beneath the patch,
soft elbows resting in the plush,
and at her knees the pastel bunched.
In wistful breeze, her tiny feet
conducted silent symphonies.
She lay entranc'd by wondrous things,
probing for a dandelion's feets.
In terror's haste, a plump black ant,
evicted from its unearthed stand
was snatched off from her soiled wrist,
between her fingers slowly pressed.
Then, she smiled to watch it gone
away among the dandelions.
