Poem of the Day
| Hand Above the Eye
My
grandpa's hand's above his eye
Each time he sees the flag go by.
I ask him what he does it for,
"Is it because you went to war?"
He said, "The flag is what we see
To remind us our great country's free.
Our fine flag stands for all that's good
From Washington to our neighborhood.
"Our men have marched on foreign shores
To fight in freedom saving wars.
And over them, it always flew.
This famous cloth; red, white and blue.
Across the world folks wish to be
With us, in this land of the free."
The drums' rat-tat, the bugles cry,
I fill with pride, the flag goes by.
But I hear now, that times are bad,
Some folks are poor, some folks are sad.
But hope must keep our banner high.
I salute with him when it goes by.
