Song of Autumn
The morning mist hung heavy o'er the marshes,
And cattail down was floating thru the air.
The hunters were out searching marsh and woodland,
The timid rabbit cowered in his lair.
All the leaves had turned to gold and crimson.
The pumpkins lay like suns upon the ground.
A squirrel went out to hunt for one last acorn,
And started when he heard a barking hound.
The apples hung like rubies in the orchard,
and smells of canning floated though the house.
A cat was lying near the fire napping,
Too comfortable to even chase a mouse,
Then suddenly the sky began to darken,
and the cold north wind began to blow.
Then through the fir trees swaying like ballet dancers,
there came the first small flakes of winter's snow.
The fir trees with the snowflakes glistening on them,
all looked like heaven's Christmas trees in bloom.
And the blue veil of the sky which hung above them,
Looked as if it came from God's own loom.
